Uruguay decriminalized abortion ten years ago and established it as a health benefit guaranteed by the State. The Uruguayan IVE law approved in October 2012 constitutes a hinge in terms of the rights of women in the country, however, it is considerably far from the law that the feminist movements claimed. Immersed in the sanitary paradigm, abortion in Uruguay is configured more as an authorization to practice it within the framework of certain terms directed by the medical power than as a dimension of women's autonomy. In this paper, will be questioned two aspects that I consider to be closely linked: the ideal of the subject of rights on which the law is based and the model of state intervention that the Uruguayan political system opted for.
